Winter Landscapes – A Marker Painting Project for Kids

Winter Landscape Marker Painting _ Kids Painting _ Abbie Ulstad _ GGH

Celebrate the beauty of the winter with this easy, less-mess painting project for kids!

This winter landscape marker painting for kids is pure magic.

Marker painting is hands-down my favorite painting technique to use with little artists.

It yields the most beautiful results, all while teaching brush control, giving children the opportunity to explore the property of markers, and is NOT messy.

Here’s how we used the marker painting technique to create these beautiful winter landscapes.

Supplies:

  • Permanent marker
  • Placemat (optional, but recommended)
  • Cardstock
  • Washable markers
  • Paintbrush
  • Dish of water

Directions:

  1. Use permanent marker to create a drawing of a winter landscape. Your picture should be composed of line and shape.
  2. Use washable markers to slowly outline the inside of your drawing. It is very important to only draw lines, rather than fully coloring your picture in.
  3. Dip a paintbrush into water and apply the water to your washable marker in a controlled way. The water will transform the marker into paint. A little bit of water goes a long way!
