Bring the tradition of holiday cookie baking to the art table with this easy printmaking craft for kids. Everyone will love these sweet gingerbread prints made with cookie cutters!
There is just something about the cold, dark days of winter that makes me crave the slow, homey task of baking. Do you feel the same?
Bring the tradition of holiday cookie baking to the art table with this easy printmaking craft for kids.
Here’s how we made these sweet prints.
Supplies:
- Cookie cutter
- Plastic lid or paper plate
- White tempera paint
- Paintbrush
- Brown kraft paper or a recycled paper bag (I just cut a grocery bag open and laid it flat for our painting surface)
- Cookie sheet (optional, but recommended)
Directions:
- Set your paper onto the cookie sheet. The cookie sheet will act as a placemat and help contain any mess.
- Squeeze a dollop of white paint onto your plate or plastic lid.
- Dip your cookie cutter into the paint.
- Press your cookie cutter onto the kraft paper, leaving behind a print.
- Continue dipping and pressing the cookie cutter to fill the space of your paper.
- Use a paintbrush to add additional details to your printed “cookies.”
This year we used our printed paper to wrap gifts and also cut out individual prints to use for gift tags.
Last year, we cut out the prints and used them to create a gingerbread garland.
No matter how you use the finished product, this is a wintery craft the whole family will enjoy!
