Winter Texture Scavenger Hunt

Winter TExture Scavenger Hunt Flat Lay by Abbie Ulstad

A free printable art game for kids!

My son comes home from our walks with his pockets and hands stuffed with little treasures. There is just something so natural about wanting to connect with nature, isn’t there?

And it really does make sense. After all, we belong in nature. We ARE nature.

This printable scavenger hunt for kids is an awesome way to nurture this natural wonder in the world and expand understanding of the art element of texture.

Supplies:

Instructions:

  1. Print out a copy of the Winter Texture Scavenger Hunt game.
  2. Attach the Scavenger Hunt printable to a paper bag or clip it to a board.
  3. Go on your walk, looking for the textures on the worksheet.
  4. As you walk and see a texture, either place it in your bag or mark it by coloring in its space.
  5. Continue on your walk until you have found all the textures.

A couple of additional tips to ensure this is a successful outing (for both you and your little one):

  • Dress warmer than you would for a regular winter walk or hike. You will be moving more slowly.
  • As you bundle your babe up, give them the scavenger hunt to look over. Discuss the different textures and where you might find them on your stroll.
  • Enjoy all things cozy when you return from your walk! A yummy cup of cocoa on the couch…cuddling up on the couch to read a good book… Those little things that make winter the warmest season!

This art project is part of the Winter morning work pack I designed for homeschooling families.

All activities not only align with the National Arts Standards, but can also be easily be adapted to meet the needs of any younger children. In fact (at the time this post is being written) 100% of parents who have used this product engaged their little learners at the same time as their older children.
