Woodland Deer: An Easy Cardboard Craft for Kids

This cardboard deer craft for kids is sweet as can be! It can be used as a mask during play or as a decoration during the holiday season!

This sweet cardboard craft for kids is easy, but oh-so-magically folksy.

All you need for this project is cardboard, a marker, and some crayons. Seriously. That is all.

My son and daughter had fun playing with these as masks, but they could also be simply displayed as a work of art or used in holiday decor.

Here’s how we made this cardboard craft.

Supplies:

  • Cardboard (we used the back of a cereal box for this craft)
  • Black marker
  • Earthy crayons (we used a package of skin tone crayons)
  • Scissors

Directions:

  1. Use your black marker to draw the outline of a deer’s head. For ours, we started by drawing a letter U and then added two inverted-v’s for the ears.
  2. Use your black marker to draw the features of your deer. We drew triangles inside of the ears, two curves for closed lids, an oval nose, and a couple of lines down the forehead for added interest.
  3. Use crayon to add texture and color to your cardboard deer.
  4. Carefully cut out your creation using a pair of scissors.
