These dandelion paintings for kids recycles bubble wrap and is great addition to a nature study on dandelions!
If weeds are growing in your yard, make a unit study out of them!
It’s been a simple unit- but a super fun one to cover in homeschool. We’ve done dandelion dissection, written a poem, studied the life cycle, and learned that every part of a dandelion is edible.
And one of my favorite activities we did for this unit? Dandelion paintings using recycled bubble wrap!
Here’s how we made these fun and eco-friendly paintings.
Supplies:
- Black construction paper
- White paint
- Green paint
- Bubble wrap
- Scissors
- Paintbrush
- Paper plate or plastic lid (to use as a pallet)
Directions:
- Place a dollop of green paint onto your paper plate.
- Use your paintbrush to paint dandelion stems and leaves onto your black construction paper. It works best to limit yourself to 1-4 dandelion stems for this project.
- As the green paint dries, use scissors to carefully cut a circle out of bubble wrap. This will be used to print the puffball of your dandelion.
- After squeezing a dollop of white paint onto your paper plate, paint the bumpy side of your bubble wrap with a coat of white paint.
- Press the bubble wrap onto your paper, just above the stems that you have painted. Peel away the bubble wrap, leaving behind the print of a puffball!
- Repeat the bubble printing step until each of your painted stems has their own dandelion puffball.
