Cardboard Acorns

Cardboard Acorn Craft _ completed project _ Abbie Ulstad _ ggh

This cardboard acorn craft for kids is simple and sustainably-made!

Why did we make these cardboard acorns?

Well, we have been finding hundreds-upon-hundreds of acorns on our nature walks lately. Which made my son want to make some sort of acorn craft.

And acorns are arguably the CUTEST of tree seeds.

Here’s how we made these acorn paintings from recycled materials.

Supplies:

  • Cardboard
  • Scissors or a utility knife
  • Washable tempera paint in brown, black, and yellow
  • Q-tips, plastic forks, and/or paintbrushes
  • Paper plate or plastic lid
  • Googly eyes with adhesive (optional, but kids ADORE this step)

Directions:

  1. Use your scissors or a utility knife to carefully cut your cardboard into the shape of an acorn.
  2. Place a dollop of each color of paint (brown, black, and yellow) onto your paper plate or a plastic lid. This will serve as your paint palette.
  3. Dip your q-tip into the black and yellow paints and use dots to create the cap, or cupule, of your acorn.
  4. Dip your fork into the brown and black paints. Use your fork to create textured paint marks on the shell of your acorn.
  5. Allow paint to dry. Then, if desired, glue googly eyes onto the shell of your acorn.
