This adorable craft for kids develops fine motor skills and is a great way to recycle cardboard!
This adorable craft for kids uses materials you probably already have on hand at home and is a great way to develop fine motor skills and explore texture.
You can make the wrapping boards in any shape that you would like, but I find that hearts are a fun way to start. Plus, I am sharing this craft on Valentine’s Day – what could be a more fitting shape?
Here’s how you do it.
Supplies:
- Scissors
- Cardboard
- Yarn
- Beads (optional)
- Tape (optional, but recommended for younger children)
Directions:
- Use your scissors to carefully cut a heart shape (or other shape of your choice) from the cardboard.
- Use scissors to cut a series of notches along the outside edge of your cardboard heart.
- Secure your yarn to the back of the cardboard using a small length of tape. This step is optional, but I highly recommend it for young children.
- Wrap away, crisscrossing across the heart from notch to notch. To add an extra element of color (and a challenge for kids who are ready for it), feel free to string beads onto the yarn.
- When done wrapping, trim your yarn and wrap the end around a few strands in the back of your heart to secure it.
