Explore the element of texture with this easy nature activity for kids – seashell painting!

Paint, wash, and paint again! This seashell painting project can be done again and again. Talk about a craft being earth friendly!

My kids were ENTHRALLED with this extremely simple art activity. There was something magnetic about the seashell’s natural textures and the way paint interacted with them.

All you need for this project is watercolor paint, water, brushes, and seashells. Once you have finished painting the shells, wash them off and paint again!

Here’s how we did this seashell painting.

Supplies:

  • Seashells in a variety of shapes and sizes
  • Watercolor paint
  • Dish of water
  • Paintbrush
  • Placemat (optional, but recommended)

Directions:

  1. Set out the seashells alongside the paint, water, and brushes.
  2. Give your child the time and space to paint the seashells.
  3. Done? Leave as is and display or wash and repeat!
