Push Pin Pumpkins

Pushpin Pumpkins _ Child Creating _ Abbie Ulstad _ GGH

Sometimes you just need a super quick and super easy seasonal craft. This push pin pumpkin craft is just the ticket!

Push pin pumpkins?

You mean, let kids make art with push pins?!

Yes!

It develops their fine pincer grasp, an understanding of pressure, and teaches them how to safely handle sharp objects.

This fall craft for kids is as simple and quick as they come. It is also a great, less-mess way of decorating pumpkins. Here’s how we made these push pin pumpkins.

Supplies:

  • Pumpkin (any size or variety!)
  • Push pins
  • Small hammer (optional)

Directions:

  1. Set out the pumpkin alongside the push pins and the hammer.
  2. Invite your child to decorate their pumpkin using push pins. It can be helpful demonstrating with the first pin, pointing out which side is the sharp side. If your child finds it difficult to push the pins through the pumpkin’s rind, offer them the use of a small hammer.
  3. Display your push pin pumpkin!

When you are done showing off your push pin pumpkin craft, remember to remove the push pins before composting your pumpkin.
