All you need for this easy art project is paint, paper, and cardboard rolls.

It’s the perfect low-prep art activity to model reusing and recycling. Additionally, kids will explore repetition, shape, texture, and pattern with these lovely prints.

These prints are gorgeous as is, but would make beautiful wrapping paper!

Here’s how we made these patterned prints using toilet paper rolls.

Supplies:

  • Recycled cardboard roll
  • Paper plate or plastic lid
  • Tempera paint in 2-3 colors
  • Heavy drawing paper or cardstock
  • Placemat (optional, but recommended)

Directions:

  1. Use your fingers to bend a toilet paper roll into a v-shape.
  2. Squeeze washable paint onto a plate or a plastic lid.
  3. Dip your paper roll in the paint and then stamp it onto the paper.
  4. Dip and repeat!
