These Paper Bag Houses are a quick, easy way to give children an experience with sculpture!
There is something so magical about three-dimensional art activities. Children who are uninterested in two-dimensional art often times shine the brightest in clay and sculpture projects.
If you are looking for a low-prep, low-mess sculpture project, these Paper Bag Houses are for you!
Here’s how we did it.
Supplies:
- Paper lunch sack or a small paper shopping bag
- Markers and/or crayons
- Newspaper or tissue paper
Directions: ⠀⠀⠀
- Set out markers/crayons alongside an unopened paper bag.
- Use markers or crayons to decorate the paper bag like a house. The bottom of the bag will be the roof of the house sculpture. The opening of the bag will be the bottom of the house.
- When you are done adding details to your home, open the paper bag.
- Fill the bag with crumpled newspaper or tissue paper. When the bag has been filled enough to hold its form, stand it on its open end.
- Display and enjoy! ⠀⠀⠀⠀
This project would be a great tool to build community in a classroom setting. Imagine how beautiful it would be to have each child design a home and then display the sculptures alongside one another along the top of a book shelf!
This art project is one of five activities in my Element of Form Activity Pack. If you are looking for more low-prep activities to teach kids about this element of art, you can view the activity pack here.
