This mitten drawing has a sneaky (and fun) math component.
How many shapes or lines are drawn onto each mitten will be determined by the roll of a dice.
By incorporating dice rolling into this art project, kids develop number sense and are introduced to the mathematical concept of probability.
Dice games also begin building the skill of subitizing. Subitizing is the ability to instantly recognize the number of objects without actually counting them.
Here’s how to play this fun mitten drawing game (along with a free printable!).
Supplies:
- Drawing materials (markers, crayons, or colored pencils)
- Mitten drawing worksheet (download the free printable here)
- Dice
Directions:
- Set out the drawing materials alongside the worksheet and dice.
- Roll the dice.
- Add lines or shapes to one of the mitten outlines. How many of these lines or shapes is determined by what number you rolled.
- Continue rolling and drawing until you have decorated all of the mittens.
