Juneteenth Flags: A Collage Project for Kids

Celebrate Juneteenth with this easy collage art project for kids!

Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day, takes place annually on June 19.

This easy collage project for kids is a great way to celebrate the holiday!

People honor Black Independence Day with flag that is red, black, and green. These are the colors of the Pan-African flag, and these colors honor people of African Diaspora.

This art project not only provides the opportunity to teach kids about Juneteenth, but also gives the opportunity to practice construction from deconstructed materials. Additionally, small movements (like gluing!) improve pencil grip and prepare hands for the big task of writing.

Here’s how we created a Juneteenth Flag Collage.

Supplies:

Directions:

  1. Print off the Flag Collage template.
  2. Use scissors to cut the colored papers into small rectangles and squares.
  3. Set out the template alongside the cut papers and glue.
  4. Provide your child with the time and space to use the colored pieces of paper to complete the flag, gluing the papers in place.
