Handprint Cactus Craft

Create the sweetest little keepsake with this handprint cactus craft!

I’m a sucker for a good handprint craft. There is something so amazing about getting to capture your child’s smallness through their handprint.

There is also something to be had with how much bonding takes place when you paint your child’s hand for them. The wet paint’s texture almost always summons a giggle or two.

Here’s how we made these darling handprint cactuses.

Supplies:

  • Sheet of heavy paper or cardboard
  • Washable paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Black permanent marker
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Paper in a variety of colors and patterns

Directions:

  1. Use the washable paint and a brush to apply a thin layer of paint to the hand that is being printed. Press the hand onto the cardboard or cardstock.
  2. While your painted handprint is drying, use scissors to cut the colored papers for your artwork. Ideas include pots for your cacti to sit in, blossoms, or a sun/moon.
  3. When the handprint has dried entirely, use the permanent marker to draw a line around the handprint. This will be the outline of your cactus.
  4. Use the permanent marker to draw a line for a table (optional) and texture onto the cactus.
  5. Glue the cut pieces of paper onto your artwork to complete your collage.
