This Halloween watercolor painting for kids is low-prep and the perfect way to introduce the technique of wax resist!
These ghost paintings for kids is low-prep and oh-so-magical. The perfect way to celebrate Halloween, this art project also serves as an introduction to the watercolor technique of wax resist.
Wax resist is a technique that artists use in both pottery and painting. Wax (in this case, from a crayon) resists paint and keeps the paper underneath it white.
Here’s how we used the wax resist technique to create these delightfully spooky paintings.
Supplies:
- A sheet of watercolor paper or thick drawing paper
- A white crayon
- Paintbrush
- Water
- Watercolor paint
Directions:
- Lay out your sheet of watercolor paper or thick drawing paper.
- Use the white crayon to draw ghosts onto the paper.
- Give your ghost drawing to someone else for them to paint with the watercolors. The crayon wax will resist the watercolor paint, revealing the spooky ghosts!
