Celebrate all that is light with this dried flower lantern craft!
Winter solstice brings with it the longest night of the year. It’s the perfect time to celebrate the light with these dried flower lanterns!
This nature craft for kids is so simple and low-prep. You can hang these botanical beauties in front of a window to act as a suncatcher, or place an electric candle inside to enjoy in the evening.
Here’s how we made these lanterns.
Supplies:
- Contact paper
- Dried flowers or botanicals
- Scissors
- Stapler
- Tape
- Mason jar ring
- Electric candle (optional)
Directions:
- Cut your contact paper into 2 rectangles of the same size. I recommend 5″ x 7.”
- Peel away the backing of one of your rectangles.
- Decorate the rectangle with dried flowers or botanicals.
- Peel away the backing of your other contact paper rectangle. Adhere directly on top of the one that was decorated with petals, sealing them in.
- Fold your contact paper rectangle in half.
- Use scissors to create a series of cuts along the fold, about an inch apart from one another. You will want to leave about an inch uncut on the top.
- Unfold your contact paper and meet the short ends together. Staple in place to secure.
- If you want to hang up your flower lantern, use tape to attach a mason jar ring to the top of your contact paper. Add a handle.
- Display your lantern for all to see!
