A Coffee Filter Craft for Earth Day

This easy craft for kids is the perfect activity to celebrate Earth Day!

Coffee filter crafts are always a hit.

Maybe it’s because you are using a common household item to create art.

Maybe it’s because kids are exploring color mixing.

Maybe it’s the way the marker softens and spreads with a couple spritzes of water.

Maybe it doesn’t matter why these crafts are so magical. They just are!

Here’s how we made these coffee filter Earths.

Supplies:

  • Coffee filter
  • Washable markers
  • Spray bottle with water
  • Cookie tray or cake pan (optional)

Directions:

  1. Lay your coffee filter flat.
  2. Use washable marker to draw continents and water onto the Earth. Depending on the age/ability of your child, you may want to reference a globe during this step.
  3. Set your decorated coffee filter in a cookie sheet or a cake pan (this is optional but it helps contain any mess). Spray the coffee filters with water until the marker begins to spread.
  4. Allow the coffee filter to dry entirely before displaying!
