This simple cardboard jellyfish craft is an easy summer activity for kids!

Looking for an easy-peasy summer activity to do with your kids?

This cardboard jellyfish craft for kids uses simple supplies – chances are, you already have all you need! And it only takes a moment to set up!

In this jellyfish craft, kids will create two main body parts of this sea creature. Those parts are:

  • The Umbrella: Also known as the bell, this part of a jellyfish can move. It propels the creature through the water
  • The Tentacles: These are the skinny tassels that trail under the jellyfish’s umbrella. These trailing tentacles contain stinging cells.

The googly eyes? Totally unnecessary (after all, jellyfish don’t have eyes), but for young kids its an ingredient that transforms this craft to pure magic.

Here’s how we made these cardboard jellyfish.

Supplies:

  • Cardboard
  • Pencil
  • Scissors or a utility knife
  • Paint daubers
  • Ribbon or yarn
  • Googly eyes (optional, but they are a real hit with the kids!)

Directions:

  1. Use a pencil to draw the outline of a semi-circle onto the cardboard.
  2. Carefully cut out the semi-circle with your scissors or utility knife.
  3. Use the scissors or knife to cut several ribbon-width dashes on the straight edge of the cardboard.
  4. Use the paint daubers (or really, whatever art supplies you have on hand) to decorate your cardboard jellyfish.
  5. Thread ribbon or yarn through the dash-shaped cuts.
  6. Attach googly eyes to the center of your cardboard jellyfish.
