This animal mask craft will develop your child’s creativity, encourage imaginative play, and nurture empathy.
It’s hard to believe that such a simple activity can do all of that!
Your little artist exercises the skill of imagination by transforming a plain mask template into an animal of their choice through texture, color, and/or shape. Then when your child wears their mask creation, research has shown that they are actually learning to empathize with other beings.
Here’s how we did it.
Supplies:
- Markers, colored pencils, or crayons
- Animal Mask template (download your free copy here)
- Hole Punch
- Elastic or string
- Scissors
Directions:
- Print out a copy of the animal mask template.
- Cut out the mask and eye holes.
- Use marker, colored pencil, or crayons to add shape, color, and/or texture to the mask.
- Use the hole punch to punch holes on the pair of marked circles.
- Cut a length of elastic or string. Tie the ends of your string into each hold, adjusting the length to fit your head comfortably.
