Line Art Paintings

Simplicity is key in this painting project for kids.

Minimal art materials help young children’s creativity flourish in this process-based art project.

All you will need for this painting project is a permanent marker, watercolor paint, and a canvas. If you don’t have canvas, heavy drawing paper would work as well. There was something extra charming about the canvas texture in the final product, though.

The simplicity of the materials used for this process art piece helps the playful quality of children’s drawings shine through. It may be tempting to add more supplies into the mix, but trust me on this one. Less is more.

Here’s how we did it.

Supplies:

  • Permanent marker
  • Watercolor paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Water
  • Canvas board

Directions:

  1. Use permanent marker to create a drawing on the canvas board. Focus on using the elements of line and shape.
  2. Apply watercolor to your drawing.
  3. Allow paint to dry entirely before displaying the canvas.
