All About the Homeschool Portfolio

How do we organize our papers in these early years of homeschooling? With a portfolio! Keep reading for all the details PLUS a free printable.

Papers, papers, papers! The school year can quickly leave you lost in a heap of school papers. You feel overwhelmed keeping everything, and also feel bad throwing anything out. The solution? The homeschool portfolio!

The portfolio is a learning tool that can be used in the art room, in the classroom, and at home. It encourages students to take ownership of their learning journey, helps organize their work, and celebrates the growth that takes place over the year.

Every month, we go through our papers and projects that we have done. Then I challenge kids to pick out four papers that show their learning.

This gives kids ownership of their portfolio, provides a chance for reflection, AND manages papers in a consistent way.

The first day of school we will be decorating the cover for our portfolio. Here’s how you can twin with us (+ your free printable!)

Supplies:

Directions:

  1. Print off a copy of the portfolio cover page for each student.
  2. Provide children with a variety of coloring materials and allow them the opportunity to color their portfolio page to their liking. It can be helpful to give kids the guideline to not decorate the arch-shape containing their name and class.
  3. Slip colored portfolio pages in the sleeve of a binder, or store for later use.
