Art Room Scavenger Hunt

Art Space Scavenger Hunt Mock Up by Abbie Ulstad

Here’s a free printable scavenger hunt game to help build independence in your preschool or elementary child!

For each of the 7+ years I spent teaching art in the public school system, I had my students complete a classroom scavenger hunt at the beginning of the school year. It was a way to not only help children gain familiarity with the learning space, but also worked to foster a sense of community and independence.

Building independence in your little artist is work, but so worth it. Independence increases a child’s self-confidence, enables them to help those around them (whether that be a sibling, classmate, friend, or YOU), and encourages creative flow.

I recently revisited this game at home to help foster my toddler son’s independence during creative time. Here’s how you can do it in your own space!

Supplies:

Directions:

  1. Choose an item from the scavenger hunt worksheet.
  2. Go and find the item! Once you find it, color it in on the worksheet.
  3. Move on to the next item.
  4. Repeat these steps until you have found all of the items.
