Water Painting for Kids

This is the easiest art activity you will ever do with your kids.

This easy art activity will equip your child with the skills to paint independently.

It is literally the easiest art activity you will ever do with your kids. It’s low-prep, low-mess, and low-waste.

And it will still develop your child’s motor skills, pre-writing skills, visual literacy, and ability to communicate visually.

Just like good ol’ fashioned painting.

Water painting will also provide your children the opportunity to practice transferring paint from a container to another surface. It will help your children to get comfortable with the way that paint moves. It also gives your child the experience of gripping a paintbrush.

It’s the perfect way to help get your kids comfortable with real paint – and is one of the greatest strategies I have used with students who were crippled by perfectionism.

Ready to give water painting a try? Here’s how to do it.

Supplies:

  • Chalkboard
  • Paintbrush
  • Small dish of water

Directions:

  1. Set the paintbrush alongside the small dish of water and the chalkboard.
  2. Demonstrate dipping the brush in the water, scraping the bristles against the side of the dish to remove any extra water, and then applying the bristles to the chalkboard surface.
  3. Hand the brush over to your child and watch them go to town!
