Shake and roll holiday ornaments with your kids to create these colorful abstract paintings!
Ready to roll the ornament? This is a process art project that is accessible for a wide range of ages.
When we did this project last year, my daughter had just turned one and my son was four. Both kids were equally engaged with this project and enthralled with the results. How rare (and awesome) is that?
These paintings are beautiful as is or could be repurposed into gift wrapping paper.
Here’s how we made these beautiful abstract paintings by rolling ornaments!
Supplies:
- Cardboard box
- Heavy drawing paper
- Washable paint in 2-3 colors
- Plastic wrap
- Tape
- 2-3 plastic ornaments
Directions:
- Use tape to secure your sheet of paper in the bottom of a box.
- Squeeze a few dollops of paint onto the paper. It works best if you space out these dollops of paint a bit.
- Set your plastic ornaments in the box.
- Cover the box with plastic wrap and tape in place. If doing this project with older kids, this step is optional. However, it does ensure that mess is contained and no ornaments escape!
- Shake, shake, shake!
- Remove the paper from the box and allow the paint to dry entirely.
