Recycle paper with this paper roll rocket craft for kids!

The interest in outer space is timeless, isn’t it?

There has been so much interest in space lately in our house. The past few weeks we have been exploring the planets of our solar system, the International Space Station, and the power of the sun.

I needed a quick craft that the kids could work on while I finished making supper, and this was just the ticket.

Bonus? It used supplies I already had on hand – glue, recycled toilet paper rolls, paper, and tape.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to make your own paper roll rockets. Enjoy this simple craft for kids!

Supplies:

  • Recycled paper roll
  • Paper in patterns or colors of your choice
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue (to be used under the direct supervision of an adult)
  • Washi tape, paint daubers, or other art supplies to decorate your paper roll rocket craft

Directions:

  1. Use your scissors to cut a piece of paper into a circle that is about the size of a softball or large cookie. This will become the top part of your paper roll rocket.
  2. Cut a slit into your paper circle that goes from the edge of the circle to the middle.
  3. Overlap the edges of your cut slit to transform this flat circle shape into a 3-dimensional cone. Glue your paper in place.
  4. Apply a bead of hot glue along the top edge of your recycled paper roll. Press the paper cone onto this bead of glue.
  5. Use scissors to cut paper into flame-like shapes. Glue these flames to the other side of your paper roll rocket.
  6. When your glue has dried, go to work decorating your paper roll rocket! Washi tape and paint daubers are our favorite supplies for this step, but feel free to use whatever you have on hand!
