This craft is an eco-friendly way to show appreciation to someone you love. Elementary and preschool children will be amazed at how recycled materials transform into a bouquet!
Using recycled materials is not only good for the wallet but good for the earth. I absolutely love modeling the conservation of natural resources by making use of recycled objects in our art projects.
It’s also an amazing way to teach creative problem solving to elementary and preschool-aged children!
Without further adieu, here’s how you can transform that empty roll of toilet paper and the back of a cracker box into a lovely flower bouquet. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Supplies:
- One sheet of drawing paper or cardstock
- One toilet paper or paper towel roll
- Markers or crayons
- Scissors
- 5-7 straws
- Glue gun*
- One piece of cardboard (I recycled a cracker box for mine)
- One roll of masking tape
*As with any project posted on my blog, this craft is intended to be done under adult supervision.
Directions:
- Using your roll of masking tape as a template, trace a circle onto your piece of cardboard.
- Use marker or crayon to add decorations onto your cardboard circle and paper roll. These two objects will compose your vase.
- Use the glue gun to place a bead of glue around one of the ends of your paper roll. Attach the roll to the center of your cardboard circle.
- Use marker or crayon to draw blossoms and leaves onto your drawing paper or cardstock.
- Use your scissors to cut out your flower and leaf drawings.
- Using your straws as stems, tape your drawings to the straws to create flowers.
- Set your flower bouquet into your vase.
This project would be a great opportunity to discuss with your child how art can be used to communicate appreciation to others or be used to brighten someone’s day.
