This forest-school inspired art activity for kids works in all seasons!
These nature frames are one of my FAVORITE forest-school inspired process art activities.
Process-based art activities develop confidence and independence in young artists by providing them with the opportunity to make artistic choices. They also aid in the development of a child’s critical thinking skills and inquiry.
But one of my favorite things about these types of projects is how they ease the pressure for perfectionist artists.
Art projects like this one are MEANT to be done and redone.
Here’s how we made these nature frames.
Supplies:
- 4 sticks that are approximately the same size
- Gathered nature items (such as leaves, pine cones, rocks, etc.)
Directions:
- Use the 4 sticks to create a square frame on the ground.
- Arrange your gathered nature items to form a picture of your choice. Landscapes and animals are a great place to start.
- Repeat steps 1-2 again and again!
This project can be done in any season, but I especially love the contrast that is created with the snowy background.
