Juice Box Boat _ Preschooler Creating _ Abbie Ulstad _ GGH

With just a few simple materials, kids can make their very own boat and explore the wonders of water!

Making a juice box boat is a fun and educational activity that kids of all ages can enjoy!

In this STEAM activity, children will use recycled juice boxes to craft their own mini vessels and then test them out in the water.

As they do so, they will develop their fine motor skills and their understanding of fluids, density, and buoyancy.

With just a few simple materials, kids can make their very own juice box boat and explore the wonders of the water. Here’s how we did it.

Supplies:

  • Juice box
  • Straw
  • Utility knife or sharp scissors
  • Vinyl tape, duct tape, or water-resistant paint

Directions:

  1. Empty a juice box.
  2. Decorate the empty juice box with vinyl tape, duct tape, or water-resistant paint.
  3. Turn your juice box so that it is laying on its wide side. Use a utility knife or a pair of sharp scissors to cut an “x” into the juice box.
  4. Set a straw in the hole to create a mast. If desired, attach a sail to the mast.
  5. Allow your child the opportunity to experience and experiment with floating their boat.
