Beach Collage for Kids

Explore the art element of space with this easy beach collage art project for kids!

I almost feel silly making a blog post about this beach collage project for kids. It is so incredibly simple – but oh my gosh, so much learning is taking place!

In this collage, kids are . . .

  • being introduced to the art element of space and the concept of layering
  • being exposed to different colors and textures
  • developing dexterity in their hand muscles through the tasks of cutting and gluing (and this is key for the big task of handwriting!)
  • developing fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination through the construction of this beach scene

Here’s how we made these simple and sweet beach collages.

Supplies:

  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Paper in a variety of textures/shades of blue or white

Directions:

  1. Set out the paper alongside the scissors and glue.
  2. Select one sheet of paper as your “base.” This sheet of paper will remain uncut.
  3. Cut a sheet of paper into a size slightly shorter than your base paper. Give it a wavy top. Starting near the top of your base paper, glue this layer in place.
  4. Continue on, creating layers that are slightly smaller than the last and gluing them in place until you reach the bottom edge of your paper.
  5. Cut out and glue down additional details onto your beach collage. Ideas include clouds, birds, fish, or a sun.
