Explore the art element of space with this easy beach collage art project for kids!
I almost feel silly making a blog post about this beach collage project for kids. It is so incredibly simple – but oh my gosh, so much learning is taking place!
In this collage, kids are . . .
- being introduced to the art element of space and the concept of layering
- being exposed to different colors and textures
- developing dexterity in their hand muscles through the tasks of cutting and gluing (and this is key for the big task of handwriting!)
- developing fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination through the construction of this beach scene
Here’s how we made these simple and sweet beach collages.
Supplies:
- Glue
- Scissors
- Paper in a variety of textures/shades of blue or white
Directions:
- Set out the paper alongside the scissors and glue.
- Select one sheet of paper as your “base.” This sheet of paper will remain uncut.
- Cut a sheet of paper into a size slightly shorter than your base paper. Give it a wavy top. Starting near the top of your base paper, glue this layer in place.
- Continue on, creating layers that are slightly smaller than the last and gluing them in place until you reach the bottom edge of your paper.
- Cut out and glue down additional details onto your beach collage. Ideas include clouds, birds, fish, or a sun.
